Writing blogs I've enjoyed reading recently
Tuesday 24 November 2009
I'm on the mailing list for a couple of authors who love sharing knowledge and information - Holly Lisle known for her Thinking Sideways and Plotting courses and Randy Ingermanson, the snowflake guy.  Randy was offered his new Snowflake Pro software for a launch price of $US20 (usual retail $US100) so I've bought a copy and will be interested to see if it can help my current WIP once I've got another few chapters written. The actual writing is a real stop-and-start process for me. I'll write every morning for a few weeks then I'll get real busy with the paying writing again, or think of some characterisation or plotting work I need to do. But the good thing about taking the time to work out what motivates my characters and how it all fits with the wider plot is that each time I come back to the story and actually write, I know it's stronger in every way and will, one day, make a complete story from start to finish :-)

I've spent the last couple of weeks reading books about Special Forces and Triad (Tong) gangs to help develop the depth of character needed for both my hero and villain. It's exciting, isn't it, when you get those 'ah-hah' moments when another layer of emotion and motivations slots into place in your mind.
